Need To Clean Your Roof? Use Soft Washing To Get It Looking Great

Irma Stewart

If you have a lot of buildup on your roof, such as algae, mold, mildew, and moss, it is important that you get it cleaned. One way to do this is using soft washing which can make cleaning your roof easier. Below is information on what soft washing is and how it is done so you can get your roof looking great.

Soft Washing

Soft washing uses low pressure to supply water to surfaces. It is much like a pressure washer, but a pressure washer uses a much higher pressure. This can cause damage to things, including roofing. A soft washing system uses nozzles that are attached to a hose. The hose is connected to a pump that supplies the water. You have the option to choose different pressure settings.

If you are not sure what setting to use for your roof, contact a roofing contractor to help you. You can purchase a soft washing system at a home improvement store or online. If you do not want to purchase one, you may be able to rent one.

How to Soft-Wash Your Roof

Before you get started cover any bushes, plants, etc. near your roof to protect them from the cleaning solution. You then prepare the solution that you purchased to clean your roof with. You can use bleach and water or purchase a chemical that is made to clean roofs. You put the chemical that you choose into the sprayer. Water runs through a water pump and then through a hose using low pressure.

There is a nozzle at the end of the hose that you use to spray the chemical on your roof. Make sure you cover the entire roof and let the chemical stay on the roof. You do not have to rinse the solution off as it will continue to kill algae, moss, mildew, and more. It does take longer to use a soft washing system to clean a roof because of the low water pressure. Stronger chemicals are also often used in soft washing systems.

If you do not feel comfortable soft washing your roof or do not want to purchase or rent equipment, hire a soft-washing cleaning service to do the job for you. While they are there, they can also soft-wash other things, such as your home's siding.

Inspect your roof periodically for signs of algae and moss. When you do notice it, clean and soft-wash the roof immediately before it has time to spread and cause damage.
