How To Clean A Tile Floor

Irma Stewart

If you have a tile floor, you need to learn how to clean the tile floor correctly so that you can keep your home looking clean. Here are a few house cleaning tips to help you clean your floors.

Sweep Your Tile Floor

At the most basic level, you should sweep your tile floor every other day. Sweeping your floor every other day will help remove the little dust and dirt that get on your floor from everyday activity. Sweeping your floors regularly will stop you from tracking dirt through the rest of your home.

Regular sweeping will help keep small pieces of dirt from wearing down the surface of the floor. This is the most basic level of cleaning you can do for your tile floor.

Lightly Mop Your Floor

Next, you should lightly mop your floor a couple of times a week. For areas that are heavily trafficked, you are going to want to mop the floor at least three times a week. For an area that is not that heavily trafficked, you should mop the floor at least twice a week.

You don't have to get too serious when you mop your floor. You can mop your floor with some mild detergent that is combined with some hot water. The best type of mop to use is a chamois map, or just a simple rag, instead of a sponge mop.

A sponge mop will grind the dirty water into the grout, making the grout dirty. A chamois mop will not grind the dirty water into the grout.

As you clean the floor, be sure to swap out the dirty water often. Using dirty water can really damage the floor and make your grout dirty.

Clean the Grout

Finally, you need to clean the grout on your floors. The grout is the material that fills the spaces in between each of the individual tiles. Cleaning the grout is something that you should do on a monthly basis.

When the grout gets dirty, it can make your floors look dingy even if the tiles themselves are clean. Grout can really absorb dirt and liquids. To clean your grout, you are going to want to spray it down with a commercial grout cleaner. Be sure to wear gloves when you use the cleaner. Allow the cleaner to sit for about then minutes, then scrub the grout with a small brush. Then, clean the area with some hot water to clean things up.

If you have a stain on your grout, you are going to want to make a paste out of baking soda and water. Apply the paste to the stain and allow it to sit for about ten minutes before scrubbing the area.

If you have tile floors, you need to sweep them on a regular basis to get rid of surface dirt. You need to lightly mop your floors a few times a week. Deep clean the grout at least once a month. Following this cleaning routine will help keep your tile flooring looking great.
